  • Maths Week Report

    Tue 10 Feb 2015

It's Maths Week!  Here is what we have been doing.

On Monday morning, the group of Year 1, 2, 3 and 4 children named after the famous mathematician Ada Lovelace enjoyed the Maths Week session called One, Zoo, Three, Four.  Their task was to design a zoo, taking care to make sure all the animals had the correct amount of space in their enclosures, and that the zoo had enough toilets, cafes and shops.  This involved a lot of multiplication, which was done using times tables and then checked on calculators!

The remaining groups, Lewis Carroll, Mary Fairfax Sommerville, Emy Noether, Fibonacci, Alan Turing, Pythagoras and Isaac Newton enjoyed maths session through Art, PE, Science and Geography.

We were also grateful to have some expert hands from Cox Green School helping us out!

  • Playframe refurbished

Mon 12 Jan 2015 Mrs Sendorek

Many thanks to the Friends of Oakfield (FoO) for funding the refurbishment of the playframe (our magnificent climbing equipment) which FoO originally purchased and had installed in 2004. After 10 years of wear and tear and much soaking in last year's floods it had begun to rock slightly and was in need of some repair and resetting before we could use it again. This is now  almost complete.

We are all looking forward to its official re-opening next week. Watch this space!

  • Thank You Daena!

    Thu 08 Jan 2015

Mrs Hull and the pupils of Oakfield would like to send Daena a big thank you for her lovely letter which we received on Tuesday 6th January. It is so lovely to hear that previous Oakfield pupils are doing well and it put a big smile on our faces. Here is her drawing which was attached to her letter.

  • Pictures - Aladdin

Sat 27 Dec 2014 Mrs Sendorek

Just released - stills from the exciting staff pantomime in which Aladdin met Google, Red Riding Hood and the Wolf, Matilda, two Scottish Pirates (one of whom actually came from London), two Christmas Stars,  Fairy Mary Berry of cake-making fame and her arch-rival Fairy Thatcher Cake Snatcher, two beautiful princesses (neither of whom wished to marry Aladdin, sadly), Elsa from 'Frozen', Jean and Knee of the lamp who together make magic, and a real live Christmas present with rapping skills. What did Aladdin and his mother the beautiful Widow Twankee do when the dreaded Ofwash Inspector came to inspect the Oakfield Laundry? How did the laundry workers, and especially the glamorous Laundry Assistant, outwit the intruder?

Parents, alas, will never know but the children described the show as 'the best ever '.

  • Pictures - Christmas Stars

Sat 27 Dec 2014 Mrs Sendorek

Now available in the Gallery - stills from this year's outstanding Christmas Production 'Christmas Stars'. This ambitious musical devised, written, produced and directed by Oakfield staff and featuring every single child from Year 1 to Year 4 incorporates music from the forthcoming concert at the O2 in which our older choir members will be singing on 29th January 2015, as well as Christmas material from 'Out of the Ark' music.

The thought-provoking storyline winds through an excerpt from Starlight Express, a variety of food-related songs, and a rock-along trip to the Christmas shops as Google attempts to answer the children's questions about the essential quality of Christmas Eve. Do the stars really shine more brightly on that special evening, and if so, why? Only the stars themselves can answer this and they take the children through a journey firstly with Nelson Mandela and  then  back 2,000 years to the birth of the person who inspired him in his fight against the injustice of the apartheid system - the child in the manger in Bethlehem.
