World Book Day

The last two weeks have been very busy and exciting for Maple Class. The children received a letter from the pirate Captain Wiggle asking them for their help in finding his missing parrot, Polly, who had been kidnapped by Captain Whitebeard! The children received letters each day with important instructions, such as making wanted posters, eye patches and flags. We also received pieces of a map, with instructions to follow it once it was complete. On Tuesday we followed the map, which took us to the pirate park in Windsor where we found Captain Wiggle and Polly safe and sound. The children had a fantastic morning playing on the ship and meeting Captain Wiggle. We’re still keeping a look out for ole Captain Whitebeard though...
Thursday 6th March was World Book day and all of Year One dressed up as a character from a book. We had some fantastic costumes and it was great to hear everyone talking so enthusiastically about books and sharing their favourite stories. We were also very lucky to have a special visit from illustrator Becky Young. She shared some of her work with the children and demonstrated how she creates her drawings and paintings. The children even had a turn at being illustrators for the morning and created some amazing pieces of artwork of their own, using watercolours.
