Summer Term (3)

It has been a short week this week and I hope you all enjoyed your bank holiday Monday. We have now fully immersed ourselves in the Kate Greenaway Project books. The Kate Greenaway books are selected for their beautiful illustrations. We have been studying The Promise by Nicola Davies. This is a book about a world without plants. One day, a girl steals a bag however finds it full of acorns which she plants, filling the world with colour and happiness.

In PSHE, we have been discussing the way in which plants affect our lives and debating the girl’s actions.

In Art, we have been exploring one of my favourite illustrations from the project. It is found in The Promise and inspired some excellent artwork from the children.

In English, we have been discussing The Rules of Summer by Shaun Tan. It is a very interesting book which the children have been helping me to understand! We have had some great conversations about each illustration and the children have shared some of their experiences of their siblings. I have attached some of the illustrations. Can you explain what they are showing? What is the rule the older brother has told his younger brother? What is the younger brother imagining as a consequence for breaking the rules?
Next week we will be taking a break from the Kate Greenaway Project for Environmental Week. We have lots of exciting things planned from a minibeast hunt to art projects.
