Week commencing 5th January
Welcome back and Happy New Year! We hope you had a fantastic Christmas break and managed a bit of a rest(!)
We have been busy settling back into our school routines and remembering our Golden Rules. We have been doing lots of show and tell and sharing our holiday news.
Our topic this term is “Journeys/Let’s Travel” and we have been talking about what we already know about transport and journeys and also coming up with ideas for things we would like to find out. We have new talk partners so have been having lots of discussions with them and practising our listening and turn taking.
We have a new role play area and we have been using this to play an airport game and make passports and tickets for travel.
In maths we have been revisiting our learning from last term by playing lots of counting games and talking about how we can be careful counters. We have also been looking at 3D and 2D shapes.
In phonics we have learned the sounds “ch, sh, th”. These are sounds made up of two letters and are called digraphs. We are going to be digraph detectives and begin to look out for these in our reading!
Outside we have made a pirate ship and train to link into our new topic.
We will be talking about local journeys, in particular our journeys to and from school. In maths we will be beginning to look at addition and in phonics we will be learning the sounds “ng”, “dge”, “ve” and” wh”.
Please continue to read with us every night and help us spot those digraphs!
Talk to us about journeys we make – how are we travelling? How long does it take? What do we see? We will be making maps of our journeys to and from school next week so any photos of journeys to school would be helpful.
Don’t forget to check back soon!
