Spring Term - 13th March 2015

We have had a very busy week at school! On Monday and Tuesday, we were lucky enough to be visited by two famous authors: Steve Cole and Nick Sharratt. They both delivered very exciting presentations. We enjoyed Nick Sharratt’s illustrations of Mrs Singh and Mr Bednar and looking at the way that his pictures reflect and compliment the writing in different books. Steve Cole gave us lots of top tips about inspiration for writing and was very, very funny! He even sang to us with his ukulele. Both of the authors have increased our interest in reading and reminded us of how much fun stories can be. Here are some pictures of us enjoying these two visits:

In Maths this week, we have been learning how to find the difference between two numbers that are larger than 100. We went outside onto the playground and practised using blank number lines to help us to work out the answers. Here we are in action!

On Friday, we really enjoyed having our mums come into school. In the morning, we looked at photographs of different mosaics from around the world. We were very surprised to hear where some of them were from! Next, we looked at mosaics from the Roman period and thought carefully about their colours and the sort of things that they represented. In the afternoon, we constructed our own mosaics. Thank you very much to all of the mums who came into school and shared a little bit of what we get up to. Here are some pictures of our mosaics:

If you’ve been inspired by the work that we’ve done today, you could make your own mosaic - http://gwydir.demon.co.uk/jo/mosaic/mkmosaic.htm
