Welcome back and welcome to Chestnut Class! I hope you have all had a lovely summer holiday and have come back ready to learn and enjoy the year.
We have had a lovely first couple of weeks and have got stuck into a number of topics. We have been producing some poetry in English, studying Picasso and Rousseau in Art and looking at how seeds are dispersed in Science.
There is lots of information that you will receive over the next few weeks, including at the KS2 Curriculum Evening on Monday 14th September, and below is some key information.
Our PE days are Wednesday and Thursday. Please ensure the children have their kits in school on these days. They need both their indoor kits and outdoor kits in school each week. It is also useful to have a plastic bag in case the outdoor kit gets muddy or wet.
During Year 3, all children are able to learn an instrument. These lessons are a fantastic opportunity and the children thoroughly enjoy them. Please make sure that your child brings in their instrument every Monday to make the most of these lessons.
Children should be completing their reading each night. Please write in their Reading Record to state which book they have been reading, the pages they have read, how they have been finding the book etc.
Spelling homework will be given out on a Friday and must be returned on a Monday. We encourage children to complete their homework in their best handwriting and with neat presentation.
Maths homework will be given out on a Friday and children are to complete 15 minutes a night and return the comment slip on Wednesday. Please do not send in the slip before Wednesday as we would expect children to be completing the activities each night.
We do encourage independence in Year 3 and the excuse, ‘my mum/dad forgot’ is not accepted! Please support us with this by also encouraging independence at home when packing their bags and getting ready in the morning. Thank you!
