Welcome to Maple!

From Miss Ibrahim, Miss Dean & Mrs Dearnaley

30th March 2021

What an exciting few weeks we have had!

In English, we have been learning all about the story of Goldilocks and the three bears.  Our topic began with a special visit from the three bears, they left us some porridge for us to taste and we found a red ribbon that we think belongs to Goldilocks!

We’ve been practising our story map and are now writing our own versions inspired by what we have learnt.

In Maths, we have been exploring the number between 10 and 20 in lots of detail and practising using the sentence below…

We have also been using lots of equipment to represent numbers in different ways.

In Discovery time, we started the term with our Art topic all about colour. We looked at lots of different artists including Piet Mondrian, Mark Rothko and Paul Klee. We had a fun demonstration where we mixed primary colours in zip lock bags to make secondary colours and observed coloured ice cubes melting and predicted what secondary colours we could make.

One of our Discovery Time challenges was to create a piece of work inspired by Piet Mondrian.

We have now moved onto our plant topic. Miss Dean and Mrs Dearnaley created a wonderful garden centre for our ‘small world area’ and lots of the children have been writing what they think might have happened to the broken watering can in the ‘curiosity cube’ (we think a giant might have stepped on it!).  Last Friday we planted our beans and we have been watering them each day.

Today is a very exciting day because we will be celebrating all the pebbles we have collected in the Golden Jar, with a special Easter themed treat!

Thank you to all the adults at home for your continued support with phonics and spelling homework and daily reading.

We wish you all a lovely Easter break.
