Welcome to Cherry!

From Mrs Walters, Miss Odell & Mrs Crawford

25th September 2020

We have had a busy couple of weeks in Cherry class!

We have enjoyed lots of stories, including Fantastic Mr Fox and The Hodgeheg, and we are currently reading Cakes in Space and a non-fiction book called My First Book of Comparisons. We have also been talking about books that we have enjoyed reading ourselves. At the moment, Horrid Henry, the Rainbow Magic series, Beast Quest and the Claude series are all proving to be popular.

In English, we have looked at The Way Back Home, by Oliver Jeffers. Soon, we will be writing our own stories based on this.

As part of our work on materials, we learnt about what it means if something is rigid, and explored whether metal objects are always rigid. Here are some photos of us in action!

In Maths, we have been looking at place value, and different ways of partitioning two-digit numbers. We have begun to look at greater than or less than in preparation for ordering numbers next week.

Watch out for some photos of our amazing rocket art soon!

Our PE days are Monday and Tuesday and spelling tests are on Fridays.

We have been very busy in Cherry class this term!

In Maths, we have learnt all about multiplication and division. We are now practising our 2, 5 and 10 times tables (multiplication and division facts) to try and memorise them as well as we can. Here is a picture of us working out division problems:

In English, we have been learning the story of Little Red Riding Hood. We have started to learn how to use speech marks and commas in lists, and will begin to plan to write our own stories inspired by Little Red Riding Hood next. This week, we have particularly enjoyed acting out the story. Our friends had to guess which part of the story we were acting out:

In spelling sessions, we have been practising our knowledge of homophones (words that sound the same but have different spellings and meanings). Here we are playing homophone bingo:
