Week commencing 3rd November
Welcome back! Here are some of the things we have been getting up to in Ash class this week…
We have been settling back into the routines of school. On Monday we shared our holiday news in our key groups. We have also been attending some assemblies this week, ready for Remembrance assembly on Tuesday.
We have learned about Diwali and read the story of Rama and Sita. Mrs Morton came into class to do some pottery work with us and we made clay Diva lights. We will be painting these in a few weeks once they have been fired in the kiln. We also made some Rangoli patterns using coloured rice.
We talked about fireworks and firework safety and learned about Guy Fawkes and why we remember the 5th of November. We have been making firework pictures using lots of different materials and techniques.
In maths we have been practising counting forwards and backwards along a number line as well as spotting missing numbers.
In phonics we have learned the sounds “ck, e, u, r” and we have also been learning the tricky word “the”. We have begun to read simple “the dog” “the cat” etc statements using our phonics.
Outside we have been painting, doing role play and putting on shows for our friends to watch.
We will be learning the meaning of Remembrance Day and attending the whole school assembly. We will be making poppies to get ready for this. We will be reading the story of “Goldilocks” and using puppets, toys and drawings to retell the story. In maths we will be looking at ordering objects by size.
Please continue to read with us every night – don’t forget to sign our reading records because this shows our teachers we have read. We are getting really clever with our phonics now so do test us out by sounding out some simple words e.g. c-a-t for us to guess or by going through our green key words.
Don’t forget to check back soon!
