Week commencing 13th October
Welcome back! Here are some of the things we have been getting up to in Ash class this week…
For our Harvest celebration we made vegetable soup using our favourite vegetables brought in from home. We all had a go at cutting up some vegetables to add to the pot and then smelled the soup as it cooked throughout the day. When the soup was ready we were all brave and tasted it – it was delicious and some of us even had seconds!
In maths we looked at the similarities and differences in shapes, sizes and colours between the vegetables. We also counted up how many vegetables we had and weighed them too.
In phonics this week we learned the sounds “i,n,m,d” we have also been practising building and reading words using the sounds we have learned.
We have been exploring our new farm shop role play area where we have been busy writing shopping lists, weighing and counting out vegetables and taking it in turns to be shopkeepers and customers.
We have also been digging for potatoes in our classroom!
Outside we have carried on practising with the musical instruments and have built a stage for our bands to perform on.
We will be potion making ahead of Halloween by measuring out and comparing the capacity of different containers and building upon our phonics knowledge with lots of sounding out and building simple words to add into our cauldrons. We will also be carrying on our investigations into different types of vegetables.
Please help us to practise reading and writing some of our green words (given out on ILC day) using the sounds we have learned so far. Keep reading through our books with us encouraging us to add more description and detail each time we read. Don’t forget about the maths challenge cards which can be collected on a Friday after school – any work/photos from these challenges can be sent back into school in our reading folders ready to share with our teachers. Check back soon!
