Week commencing 12th January
This week in Ash class we have been talking about our journeys to school. We have been finding out how our talk partners and friends travel to school and recording our findings. We have been doing lots of data handling by making tables and charts of our results and talking about what these show. We have also been drawing our routes we take to school and talking about what we see on our journeys.
In maths we have begun to look at some simple addition and we have shared some addition facts we already know. Lots of us already know some doubles and simple sums. We have looked at how a number sentence is written and what the signs + and = mean.
In phonics we have learned the sounds “ng, -dge, -ve and wh ”. We have been doing lots of quick fire sounds and tricky words practise as well as playing some rhyming games.
We have been doing some more pottery this week with Mrs Mort but you will have to wait and see to find out what we have made!
In between the showers we went for a walk onto the playground to have a look at how things have changed since our Autumn walk. We spent a long time looking at and talking about the changes in the trees and have started some lovely winter tree paintings.
Outside we have been experimenting with vehicles in different materials and using observational and descriptive language to talk about the world around us.
We will be looking and vehicles which travel on land including some emergency vehicles. In maths we will be continuing our work on addition and in phonics we will be learning the sounds “-cks”, “-tch”, and “nk”.
Please continue to read with us every night and help us spot those digraphs!
Since we will be learning about land transport next week, see how many different vehicles which travel over land you can think of, the more unusual the better. Any photos or drawings can be put on our interest board.
Don’t forget to check back soon!
