This term in RE, we have learnt about the Bible and why it is important to Christians. As part of this, we welcomed Avril from FACT into school to teach us lots about this topic. First, we all gathered together for an assembly to find out some information in the Bible. We were very interested to hear that there are 66 books in the Bible, and that it is divided into the Old Testament (before Jesus was born) and the New Testament (after Jesus was born). We then came back to our classrooms to hear all about two people for whom the Bible was really important. Their names were Mary Jones and Brother Andrew. Mary Jones had to save up for 6 years and walk for 25 miles to get her own Bible! Brother Andrew smuggled Bibles into countries where they were banned because they were so important to him. We had to write a diary entry about one of them. Here we are in action:
After break, we had some time to reflect about a story in the bible about Paul and Silas. Even though lots of things went wrong in their lives, they still felt blessed and loved. We had to create different parts of the story using playdough. Here we are reflecting on the story:
In the afternoon, we learnt the story of Jonah and the Whale. We really enjoyed retelling it using the parachute as you can see in these pictures!
