Settling In

We have been back at school for just over a month and the children have settled really well into Oak Group and Saplings. As this is the children’s first term in school we have been doing lots of ‘getting to know you’ and ‘settling in’ activities which have included a walk around the school grounds, listening activities, musical activities and acting out the story of the Bear Hunt and The Three Billy Goats Gruff!

The topic this year for the ILC day project was ‘G’ is for Games. The children brought their projects into school last Tuesday and we had a big ‘show and tell’ session and the children proudly talked about their projects. The projects are absolutely fabulous and we have displayed them in the classroom for all to see. Well done children!

Last week we started our theme on Harvest and the children brought in vegetables in order to make soup. So on Friday we got busy with cutting the vegetables and then they were put to cook in a slow cooker for the day. All day we could smell lovely smells of cooking and we tasted the soup later in the afternoon. Yummy!

For the next two weeks we are going to be perfecting our counting skills through estimating the number of objects we can hold in our hands and we shall be learning about 2D and 3D shapes and seeing where in the environment we can spot them! We shall also be brushing up on our nursery rhymes and hopefully learning some new ones. This is an excellent way to help us to recognise rhyme and begin to play with words.
