September 2015

Welcome to our Saplings’ class pages! Since starting school we have been very busy getting to know our teachers, the school and all our new friends as well as settling into our new school life. Here are some of the exciting things we have been up to...

We have been doing lots of “getting to know you” activities and learning about the school’s Golden Rules and how to be part of a class. Here are some photos of us exploring our new classroom:

In phonics we have begun to play with different sounds by listening to sound effects, making animal noises and experimenting with rhyme.

In maths we have been singing lots of counting rhymes and looking out for numbers around the unit. We have also met our Maths Monsters Monty and Matilda!

Our topic at the moment is “Marvellous Me!” and we have been learning about our bodies and talking about our families. We have painted our self-portraits and made some family trees.

Outside in the garden we have had great fun in the sand pit. We have created a sand café and have been doing lots of cake making and mixing. We have also been practising our physical skills by riding bikes and scooters, playing with bats and balls and attempting our obstacle course – don’t fall off the plank!

Next week…

We shall be continuing our topic on families, so any family photographs are welcome. We will also be learning about the different parts of our bodies and our five senses. In phonics we will be carrying on our rhyming work and looking at initial sounds in words. In maths we will be learning about how we can be careful counters.

At home…

Please collect and send in any materials we can use for junk modelling such as cardboard boxes and clean food cartons.

We are hoping to create a mud kitchen and plant some seeds so any leftover soil/compost would be great too.

Check back soon to find out what else we have been up to!
