Welcome to Maple!

We have had a very busy few weeks in Maple class looking at traditional tales. We have done lots of exciting activities related to the stories of Jack and the Beanstalk, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, We're going on a Bear Hunt, and The Little Red Hen. One of the activities the children enjoyed the most was making porridge for Baby Bear! After receiving a rather sweet letter from Baby Bear, the children decided to invite him into the classroom and make some porridge for him as a surprise. We had carefully planned the activity, by thinking of what kind of ingredients we would need to make porridge, then written some instructions and followed them while making our yummy porridge. We even had the chance to taste our own bowl of porridge!
But that's not everything! Last week we had great fun making and baking some bread hedgehogs related to the story we were studying. Hope you all enjoyed tasting them at home!
In Maths we have been looking at shapes and symmetry. Why don't you look around at home and see how many symmetrical shapes and objects you can find? Maybe draw a picture or take a photo to bring in and show us! We have created a whole board of colourful symmetrical creatures (butterflies, insects) and cut out symmetrical autumn leaves to decorate our class tree.
In Science we have been learning about 'ourselves'. The children have been doing lots of fun activities around identifying the basic parts of the body and investigating our senses. They have discovered which part of their body is associated with each sense.
What a busy term we've had!
You have worked really hard and we are all very proud of you and how quickly you have got into being a year 1!
Well done Maple class, keep up the good work!
