Welcome to Maple!

From Mrs Rai, Mrs Baxendale, Mrs Wilkinson & Mrs Scrimgeour

18th June 2018

Hello from Maple,

I have to admit this is one of my favourite school terms of the year because it is packed with so many exciting events and activities; Sports Day, Dads into School Day, Summer fair, day trip to Windsor Castle, swimming...just to name a few. It is lovely to see how much the children are enjoying these activities and how willingly they throw themselves in to everything, making us proud along the way.

Also, this is the term when I like to reflect on how much the children have grown and matured in just one academic year and it is time for them to move on and leave Maple class in a few weeks time. We are extremely proud of our pupils; their attitude to learning, their behaviour in class, their strong friendships and their resilience have come on in leaps and bounds and we know they are ready for their next adventures and new challenges that year 2 will offer.

This term our history topic is all about castles. This tied in nicely with our Windsor Castle trip, which was a great success. We all thoroughly enjoyed the day and explored the castle inside and outside. We were lucky enough to see the changing of the guard and also enjoyed some music the military band played in the courtyard. Maple class also visited St Georges Chapel where the Royal Wedding took place just a week before. To make our outing even more special, we had a picnic lunch on the Long Walk, which the children welcomed with a big cheer! :)

Last week we invited the Dads into school to spend some time with us in the classroom. We were busy building castles with them out of junk material and even painted our fabulous creations! It was a rather messy morning, but full of laughter and so much fun.

The afternoon activity was planned around our Science topic. Maple class is enjoying our 'Animals' themed curriculum this term. We created sculptures of mini beasts and insects with the help of our dads and decorated them beautifully. We also went outside for a mini beast hunt and played some games. We hope the dads had fun as we certainly did! Here we are busy with all the activities:

We are one lucky school to have our own outdoor swimming pool on site and swimming lessons have already started for the classes. Just a reminder that Maple class swims on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. Please remember to send in the children's kit on these days.
