Welcome to Maple!
From Mrs Rai, Mrs Baxendale & Mrs Meakes
26th March 2019
Maple class have a very exciting topic this term – Islands and Pirates! We have already had a busy couple of weeks working on the topic and have had lots of fun along the way!
In English we have been studying some fantastic pirate stories, learnt some new facts about (in)famous pirates and their crew and investigated what pirate ships used to look like in the olden days. We have also composed some creative writing tasks; writing pirate descriptions and pirate pocket poetry. To finish off the week, as every pirate needs a pirate hat, we had to follow instructions to make our very own one. ARRRR!
In Geography, we have been looking at maps and explored different islands around the world. We were really fascinated by using Google maps to help us with our investigations. We have even had a go at drawing our own islands using our imaginations and they looked awesome! Here are some of our islands:
Our Science topic for the term is about Materials; we have been learning about where they come from, how they are made and what their properties are. In class we have been doing some experiments with materials to find out which ones are waterproof. We made predictions for a variety of materials before the children tested them in groups. Can you guess how much fun we all had by spraying water everywhere?!
Now we are very much looking forward to welcoming our mummies in to school on Friday for our annual Mums in school day. We are really excited to spend some time with them and work together on our projects :)
That's it for now. Check back for more updates next term.
