Welcome back to Holly class page! The fun and the learning has continued here in Holly Class!
We concluded our learning on the topic of The Victorians with a fabulous workshop in the school hall. It was transformed to look the Victorian home at Christmas time and we were able to get a taste of what life was like in this era. There were real artefacts for the children to handle and interact with making this a more exciting opportunity to understand what the Victorian people had in the household.
There were many activities to engage in around the house including: Embroidery, making Christmas cards, writing on slate boards, using a real ink pen, setting up the dining table, polishing the brass, sweeping the floor, beating the carpets, playing in the nursery, making a fan and writing a menu for dinner. In the afternoon, we worked in small groups to provide entertainment how it used to be in the Victorian house. Some of us sang some carols, some of us acted a silent story and there was a strong man competition and joke telling to name a few!
The children all said that they enjoyed their special workshop day and have really gained a better insight into Victorian life. The children all looked fantastic in their Victorian costumes so thank you very much for all of the effort, it really helped the children get into character and appreciate this experience.
