Oh what a lovely time . . .
The theme in Saplings for this half term has been ‘Marvellous Me!’, and we have had a number of sub themes running. First of all we got to know each other and everybody has now settled in really nicely. We’ve made a great display labelling our body parts; we took photographs and wrote the labels by ourselves. We also really enjoyed drawing around our feet and hands and comparing them in size!
We have been practising our cutting skills and mark making skills and in particular we have learnt to hold a pencil using a ‘froggy grip’. We have learnt how to make simple repeating patterns and we can identify the main 2D shapes and make pictures with them. Our counting skills are improving greatly and we have been counting lots of different things using ‘careful counting’.
We went for an ‘Autumn’ walk in our beautiful school grounds and looked at all the lovely colours of the leaves on the trees. We also spotted lots of fruit trees and spider’s webs.
As our theme for the last two weeks has been ‘Harvest’ we have learnt to tell the story of ‘Little Red Hen’ and ‘The Enormous Turnip’ using lots of actions. This week we made ‘Harvest Soup’ and we brought some vegetables into school to make the soup. First of all though we talked about where the vegetables came from and how they grow. We then compared their sizes and weights and we also sketched them before turning them into soup.
We all helped to chop the veg and then once it had been cooked we were able to eat it! Mmmmm yummy!
In PE we have been moving in lots of different ways and on different body parts. This week we practised our balancing skills.
