Keeping clean and making decisions!
This term our theme is Space and our PE days are still Wednesdays and Thursdays and Library day is also still Thursday.
It was an extremely busy half term and I think everyone welcomed the half term break! The term ahead is also looking busy but very exciting! There is already discussion about Christmas and plans for the Christmas play are well underway.
This week we have been busy settling back in and in English we have been looking at a film called ‘Dangle’ from the British Film Institute (BFI). It is all about a man who finds a mysterious rope dangling from the sky. The children have thoroughly enjoyed it and we have done a lot of work on prediction skills, empathising with the character and discussing moral dilemmas and tough decisions.
In maths we have been looking at 2D shapes and right angles as well as some 3D shapes. We have also been looking at partitioning numbers into 100s 10s and 1s.
In science we looked at keeping clean and, in particular, washing our hands properly. We did an experiment using cinnamon (to represent germs), oil (to help the cinnamon stick) and different types of water (cold water, warm water no soap and warm water with soap) and Tirion Watkins also suggested using hand sanitizer. The children predicted which method of washing hands would get rid of the most germs (or in our case the cinnamon). After getting very messy and we found out that it was the warm water with soap that was the most effective method.
